Mary R. Conklin


Mary Conklin is an Associate in the firm's Los Angeles office and a member of its Litigation practice group. In the course of her career, she has been an advocate for clients in state and federal court litigation, pre-litigation, government investigations, arbitrations, and mediations. Her civil representations have included defending clients against allegations of breach of contract, negligence/gross negligence, healthcare-related regulatory and privacy violations, unfair competition, defamation, and right of publicity violations. She has substantial experience in energy litigation, including the intersection between civil litigation and energy regulations enforced by the California Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  Ms. Conklin recently concluded a four week federal jury trial where she was a key member of the trial team that secured a complete defense verdict on behalf of a California public electric utility company defending against breach of contract and negligence/gross negligence allegations seeking nearly $32 million plus punitive damages.

Ms. Conklin was the second chair in an arbitration resulting in the successful defense against a claim for over $30 million in a breach of contract dispute. She also has extensive experience defending clients in federal and state court class actions alleging unfair business practices, privacy violations, and securities fraud allegations. Her enforcement representations have included defending corporations and individuals against allegations of securities and accounting fraud, wire and mail fraud, insider trading, closed-end fund trading, and False Claims Act violations, including Stark violations and off-label marketing of pharmaceuticals. She has conducted internal investigations for risk management and compliance purposes in relation to potential civil and criminal litigation.
