CARLSMITH BALL ADDS FALSE CLAIMS ACTS LAWYER DEAN FRANCIS PACE

Los Angeles, CA March 8, 2010

Dean Francis Pace, a noted qui tam and False Claims Act litigator, has joined Carlsmith Ball and will practice from the firm's Los Angeles office. Pace has represented clients in qui tam actions under the False Claims Act and under state False Claims Acts, for more than nineteen years. During his career, Pace has prevailed in False Claims Act litigations against Northrop Grumman Corporation (three times), Hughes Aircraft Company (twice), Parsons Corporation, TRW Inc., Fluor Corporation, FMC Corporation, Teledyne Inc., Austin Company, Pacific Steel Casting Company, PJC Technologies Inc., Waste Management Inc., H&C Disposal Company, and Atlantic Richfield Company.

In 1991, Pace secured the then third largest qui tam award for a qui tam relator in the history of the False Claims Act. He has prevailed in seven qui tam actions under the False Claims Act in which the Department of Justice has elected not to intervene, a record unexcelled by any law firm since the False Claims Act was enacted during the Civil War.

Carlsmith Office Administrative Partner Albert Ebright said, "the addition of Dean Pace will be of particular interest to clients involved in aerospace, health care, and financial industries and to those contracting with U.S. and state governments. We are delighted to have him join our firm."

Pace has authored articles on government contracts, accounting and finance and is one of the ABA Procurement Fraud Subcommittee authors of the ABA Monograph Qui Tam Litigation Under the False Claims Act. He also authored the Department of Defense reference book Negotiation and Management of Defense Contracts, published by John Wiley & Sons.

He is admitted in California, the District of Columbia, to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, to U.S. District Courts, to U.S. Courts of Appeal and to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Founded in 1857, Carlsmith Ball LLP is a full-service international law firm with nearly 100 lawyers. With offices throughout Hawaii, and in Los Angeles the firm is uniquely positioned to represent clients throughout the Pacific.
