Guam is a U.S. island territory serving as a hub of international business and tourism within a few hours flight to Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Australia. Guam enjoys a developed infrastructure as well as a friendly atmosphere, and one of the largest deep sea harbors in the Pacific in addition to its strategic location; as a territory, the island enjoys a U.S. dollar economy, the business climate and structure of the U.S., and the protection of U.S. laws. Its economy and population are poised to expand significantly with the relocation of U.S. armed forces from Okinawa.
Carlsmith Ball has been part of the Pacific tradition since 1857 when its founders began their legal practice in Hilo, Hawaii. The Guam office was established in 1977, and soon expanded through a merger with a firm which had been practicing in Guam since the 1950s. The firm's Saipan office opened in the 1980s. Carlsmith Ball now has some 100 attorneys practicing in Guam, Saipan, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, Hawaii, and on the U.S. mainland. We represent many offshore investors and businesses from the United States and Asia involved in a multiplicity of industries. (Carlsmith Ball: Doing Business in Guam)
