   JAY S. HANDLIN


has joined the firm.  Mr. Handlin is a 1985 graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.  Following a clerkship for the Hon. Jon O. Newman on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Mr. Handlin began practicing law with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York, handling a variety of commercial litigation matters.

In 1996, The Walt Disney Company engaged Mr. Handlin to handle litigation matters ranging from shareholder derivative lawsuits and contract and licensing disputes to copyright, trademark, idea theft, unfair competition, and patent litigation. He also assisted Disney in providing non-litigation legal advice, and was a technical advisor on the movie "A Civil Action."

More recently, Mr. Handlin was a partner at the Los Angeles litigation firm of Christensen, Glaser, where he continued his complex commercial litigation practice with cases involving real property, antitrust, employment, and intellectual property and entertainment issues. Mr. Handlin has published numerous articles relating to his practice areas. He is admitted to practice in Hawaii, California, and New York.

Mr. Handlin will continue his complex commercial litigation practice at Carlsmith Ball LLP in the firm's Honolulu and Los Angeles offices, and intends to spearhead its growing litigation practice in intellectual property and related areas, including copyright, trademark, trade secret, idea theft, and unfair competition law.
